About the Book Clubs category

This category is for discussing books as you’re reading through them. Ideally, you’d read along with others and discuss as you go. But sometimes you might want to follow along with some others’ journey through a book at a later date.

I want to join a book club

If you’re looking to join someone else’s book club, a good place to start is to view the latest ones by checking new-book-club tag. Once you’ve identified the one you want to join, start reading the book and either reply to others’ topics (click on the tag for the book) or create your own topics to spark a discussion (make sure to tag the book and author!).

I want to start a new book club

If you’ve decided to start a new book club, have selected a book, and are looking for others to join, prefix the title of your topic with “New Book Club:” and tag your topic with new-book-club.

If you may be wanting to start a new book club but haven’t selected a book yet or are looking to gauge interest, then posting a topic in Book Chat is probably the thing to do.

Other book club guidelines

Please tag all topics in this category with the title and author of the book. Search for an existing tag for the book or author before adding a new one.

When posting topics in this category, include the part of the book the topic is relevant to at the end of the topic title in square brackets. For example, if you’re wanting to discuss something in chapter 3 of a book, you might title it “Why did George eat all the cherries? [Chapter 3].” Depending on the nature of the book, you might want to be careful about including spoilers in the title.
